Well, we called it prematurely a few weeks ago, but it appears that the Byron Leftwich Era is now upon us.  Harrington’s play wasn’t enough to force the move during Monday night’s game, but Petrino apparently took a step back and looked at the big picture and decided to hand the rest of the year […]

It All Boils Down To The O-Line

This article in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution lays out what it perceives as the issues for the Falcons in their losses so far this season that must be addressed if there is to be any improvement.
While I don’t necessarily agree with any of the analysis in the article, to me the theme tying all of the […]

Harrington looked good.  The defense looked good.  Father Time, er, Morten Andersen kicked 4 field goals.
It’s nice to remember what an NFL victory feels like.
More tomorrow.

Not quite yet, but the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the Falcons have signed Byron Leftwich to a 2 year, $7 million deal.  He won’t start immediately though:
For now, Leftwich will backup Harrington and No. 2 quarterback Chris Redman. He most likely won’t be activated for Sunday’s home opener vs. Carolina but that could be the last […]

The Falcons have heeded my call (yeah, I’m sure they did it because of this blog) and hired a new kicker.  It’s one they’ve had before, the timeless Morten Andersen.  He is 47, or as ESPN put it, he was born in the Cretaceous Period (I think they actually said Crestacean, confusing the period with […]

“Falcons still working out ’kinks’ on offense” [Atlanta Journal-Constitution]
“Falcons in a rush to improve pass protection” [Atlanta Journal-Constitution]
Well, those headlines pretty much tell the story.  The Falcons offense was abysmal yesterday.
Although not really.  I mean they actually had several very long drives, which either ended in field goals (only 1 did, obviously) or missed field goals.  The […]

Warrick Dunn will start at running back for the Falcons despite playing only 14 plays in the Falcons’ preseason, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
In other roster news, here’s the injury report from the AJC article:
Safety Chris Crocker (knee) did not practice and defensive tackle Rod Coleman took part in what is now called “limited participation.”
Also, Jason […]

The Falcons today cut running back Jason Snelling and linebacker Jordan Beck.  Snelling is the only member of this year’s draft class to not either make the team or be placed on injured reserve.
The Falcons signed defensive tackle Remi Ayodele, guard D’Anthony Batiste, and running back Artose Pinner.
Still no word on what, if anything, the […]

The Falcons will wrap up the preseason tonight against the Baltimore Ravens at 7:30.  The game will telecast locally by WXIA.  The starters will be resting, while everybody else will be looking to make the final cut, with the Falcons having to cut the roster down to 53 by tomorrow.
Falcons head coach Bobby Petrino indicated […]

The Atlanta Falcons take on the Cincinnati Bengals tonight in the third preseason game of the year for each team.
We are going to be watching and “liveblogging” it (we always wonder about that term when we’re not actually there; just so there’s no confusion, we’re going to be watching the game on television and […]
