Atlanta begins the quarter driving at CAR 5, 1st and goal, up 17-13.Â
Turner walks in and a draw play - Atlanta back up by two scores, 24-13. With a win, Atlanta would be one game back in the NFC South, splitting the season series with Carolina.Â
Carolina now has the pressure to drive down and score [...]
Yes, Atlanta lost a game they probably should have won. Denver had a ton of players out because of injury and Atlanta should have taken advantage for more than 20 points. Yes, Atlanta was 40 yards away (or a big holding penalty) from a game-winning touchdown in the final minute. Yes, the Falcons squandered a [...]
The Falcons get the ball first and seem very out-of-sync. Two dropped passes and a short throw on 3rd and 10 lead to a disappointing 3-and-out. Denver, on the other hand, drives the field behind many completions by Jay Cutler to a touchdown and an early 7-0 lead.Â
On their second drive, Atlanta has a few [...]
Turnovers - One of the most telling statistics in football - Atlanta +4 (9th in the NFL), Denver -11 (30th). The Falcons have turned the ball over just 9 times this season with just 5 interceptions from their “rookie” quarterback Matt Ryan.
Offense - Denver is 2nd in Yards/Game, Atlanta 8th.Â
Rushing - Atlanta 2nd, Denver 18th.
Yards/Reception [...]
Atlanta is 6-0 when Matt Ryan’s completes more than 53% of his passes in a game.
Atlanta is 3-1 when Matt Ryan throws for 200+ yards in a game.
Atlanta is 5-0 when Michael Turner rushes for 60+ yards in a game.
Atlanta is only 2-2 when Roddy White has 7+ catches in a game.
Atlanta is 5-1 when [...]
Well, we called it prematurely a few weeks ago, but it appears that the Byron Leftwich Era is now upon us. Harrington’s play wasn’t enough to force the move during Monday night’s game, but Petrino apparently took a step back and looked at the big picture and decided to hand the rest of the year [...]

While I don’t necessarily agree with any of the analysis in the article, to me the theme tying all of the [...]

Atlanta 26 Houston 16
Harrington looked good. The defense looked good. Father Time, er, Morten Andersen kicked 4 field goals.Â
It’s nice to remember what an NFL victory feels like.
More tomorrow.

Not quite yet, but the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the Falcons have signed Byron Leftwich to a 2 year, $7 million deal. He won’t start immediately though:
For now, Leftwich will backup Harrington and No. 2 quarterback Chris Redman. He most likely won’t be activated for Sunday’s home opener vs. Carolina but that could be the last [...]

The Falcons have heeded my call (yeah, I’m sure they did it because of this blog) and hired a new kicker. It’s one they’ve had before, the timeless Morten Andersen. He is 47, or as ESPN put it, he was born in the Cretaceous Period (I think they actually said Crestacean, confusing the period with [...]
